“Last Woman of Söz: Bedia Hanım” Documentary was screened in İzmir

The documentary filmed by Near East University Faculty of Communication, regarding the first Turkish Cypriot Journalist Bedia Okan Göreli titled as “The Last Women of Söz: Bedia Hanım” was screened in Izmir, Turkey.

According to the press release issued by the Directorate of Press and Public Relations of Near East University, it was stated that the documentary was prepared by the Head of Department of Radio, TV and Cinema of Near East University, Assoc Prof Dr Fevzi Kasap and it was screened on International Women`s Day, 8th March at an event jointly organised by Izmir Economy University and EKOKAM.

Head of Department of Radio, TV and Cinema of Near East University Assoc. Prof Dr. Fevzi Kasap made a speech after the screening of the documentary and provided details regarding the Vedia, Bedia, Beria Okan sisters of the newspaper tilted as “Söz”. Furthermore, Assoc. Prof Dr. Fevzi Kasap stated that they were all well educated and their mother Ms İffet who undertook an important task. Additionally, he stated that Ms İffet was an individual who foresaw the future and was a significant figure at backstage. In short, a woman who was modern, who believed in the value of education, and who raised her daughters to be journalists.

Attending the documentary screening event, Consulate of Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus in Izmir, İpal Emin made a speech and provided information on women`s organisations in Cyprus.

Also making a speech, Chair of Izmir Journalists Society Misket Dikmen gave information on pioneer women tied to the Society and also made a visual presentation on women who led fields war correspondent, visuals and print.
