Associate Professor Dr. Ayça Demet Atay is Chair of the Journalism and New Media & Communication Departments at Near East University’s Faculty of Communication. She also directs the university’s Center for Gender Studies and sits on the Board of Quality and Accreditation.
Atay completed secondary education at Istanbul German High School and Cottage Grove High School (Oregon, USA). She earned a bachelor’s degree in Political Science and International Relations from Boğaziçi University. After graduation she worked as a reporter, editor, managing editor, and columnist for various Turkish publications, and in 2002 received the Abdi İpekçi Journalism Award.
She holds an MA in Conflict Resolution and a Postgraduate Diploma in Research Methods in the Social Sciences from the University of Bradford (UK). Atay earned her PhD in Communication and Media Studies from Eastern Mediterranean University. Her research focuses on peace communication, peace journalism and political communication.
