Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ayça Demet ATAY

Dr Ayça Demet Atay is an Associate Professor working as the Chair of the Department of Journalism at Near East University’s Faculty of Communication. She is a member of the university's Quality and Accreditation Coordination Board.

Atay completed her secondary education at Istanbul German High School and Cottage Grove High School in Oregon, USA. She pursued her undergraduate studies in political science and international relations at Boğaziçi University. Following her undergraduate studies, she worked as a reporter, editor, managing editor, and columnist for various publications in Turkey. In 2002, she was awarded the Abdi İpekçi Journalism Award.

She pursued her master's degree in Conflict Resolution at the Department of Peace Studies of the University of Bradford in the UK. At the same university, she also completed a Postgraduate Diploma Program in Research Methods in Social Sciences. Atay obtained her doctoral degree in communication and media studies from Eastern Mediterranean University. Her research focuses on peace journalism, peace and communication, and political communication.
